[DDD]: PEACEFUL RESTAURANT
WHO: Peaceful Restaurant
WHERE: #110 – 532 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C.
WHEN: Sunday, September 23. 5 PM.
WHAT: ‘Xiao Long Bao’ Steamed Buns (aka. Juicy Pork Buns) ($7.25), Peaceful Beef Rolls ($7.25), Peaceful House Stir-Fried Noodles ($12.95)
WHY: Why not?
I’ve been hearing about Peaceful Restaurant for some time now and after watching it re-run on the food network, I realized I needed to visit. Marketing works.
For days I was thinking about green onion pancakes (the frozen t&t variety + hoisin sauce) so of course we needed to order the Peaceful Beef Rolls. When it arrived, it was tasty but not hot or as crispy as I expected. Expensive when you consider you can get lukewarm beef rolls from the ready made food section of Yaohan…
The XLB arrived next. Hot. Juicy. Good. Seemed like there was a lot more juice than normal OR am I missing out on the best Xiao Long Bao in Vancouver? Is that a challenge?
As for the noodles, they have that chewy-ish hand pulled texture. Felt like they had too many noodle varieties (sauces + meat/seafood combos) to choose from and I’ll probably return just to try another one! Can’t go wrong with the Peaceful House Stir-Fried Noodles if you want a bit of bok choy, seafood (prawn and squid) and pork.
Keep in mind: There was a line up at 5 PM (~15 mins). We were asked if we mind sharing a table and did, got that ‘eating-in-a-food-court’ feeling. Water will not come unless you ask x3 in Chinese. Don’t think that your teapot is coming back either. Cash and Debit Only.
I’m torn on this one. Nice little neighbourhood restaurant that seems overstressed by DDD tourism.
